Editing can range from simple desk-editing (consistency of punctuation, style, spellings, etc.),
to more substantive editing. which may require re-writing. It can
include research in case of bibliographies and references for academic
work.
The majority of our work comprises complete projects, where we receive
typescripts through publishers or organizations, interact with the
author’s or editor’s, edit, re-write, and research, create an
index if
required, to produce a complete book or document, which is then ready
for typesetting. Copy-editing is done in accordance with guidelines laid down in The Chicago Manual of Style, Hart’s Rules, and other reference dictionaries and thesauruses. Most of the work done over the years has been in British English, however we do deliver work in American English, keeping in mind it’s requirement of spelling, punctuation and style. Proofing is done at two stages, once after editing, and again after the book has been typeset, before generation of the print files. In the rare instance of receiving a typescript in a typed or laser printed form, there is an initial stage of proofing after doing an OCR conversion of the hard copy. |
